What this video is about
In this first episode of EntreSesiones, Miguel Ángel Díaz, CEO of Comic Store, talks about pop culture and leisure. He describes his company as a chain of shops specialising in comics, manga, fantasy literature, board games and merchandise, and explains that much of its audience consists of young adults and adults who grew up with these hobbies and return to them at different stages of life, often playing with their children.
The conversation links these hobbies to deeply human traits: play as a way of relating to others and learning rules, fantasy, the love of collecting and the need to belong to a group or “tribe”. Both recall the early days of home computers, arcade machines and role-playing games in the 1980s, in a world without the internet. Miguel Ángel believes the sector is enjoying its best moment and highlights that board games encourage a face-to-face social interaction that other forms of leisure do not offer.
There is also reflection on the possible impact of artificial intelligence and virtual reality, on the fears that have accompanied each new technology and on the tendency to focus on the negative. Finally, he talks about karate as a hobby and about his company’s expansion plans.
