What this video is about
In this video, two psychologists from the team at the Centro Elemental de Psicología in Málaga present the course “Next level in your clinical practice”, from Elemental Training, focused on brief systemic therapy. They describe this model as practical and simple for assessing and responding to problems, closely tailored to what the client brings and transparent, since from the outset there is discussion of what needs to happen for therapy to end. They also highlight teamwork, which allows them to supervise one another and review stuck cases, and the integration of explanations from other disciplines, such as neuroscience or evolutionary biology, and of techniques from other therapies, such as solution-focused, strategic, narrative or third-wave therapies.
They also explain that in sessions they use tablets whose notes the client can see on a screen, so that the session is built jointly and anything the client disagrees with can be corrected.
The 12-hour course, spread over several days, covers the philosophical foundations of the model, a repertoire of techniques, such as working with exceptions and with attempted solutions, and plenty of practice through role play adapted to each student’s weak points. It will also address the idea of supershrinks and deliberate practice, with the collaboration of Alberto Moreno, director of the centre.
