What this video is about

In this webinar, Alberto Moreno Gámez reviews what is known about the effectiveness of psychotherapy. He explains that the main models have been shown to be effective, but that meta-analyses find no major differences between them, which is known as the Dodo bird verdict. From there he presents the theory of common factors, which attributes much of the change to the client’s own resources and to the therapeutic relationship, and notes that in recent decades results have not improved significantly.

The central part is devoted to supershrinks or super-therapists, professionals whose results are far above average. Among their traits he mentions interpersonal skills, the ability to build an alliance with very diverse people, flexibility, conveying hope, awareness of their own processes and an attitude of humility that leads them to keep improving. He also comments that more years of experience do not guarantee better results and highlights deliberate practice as a form of training.

In the last part he describes Elemental Training’s in-person training: very small groups, supervision of real cases and content on global health, neuroscience, evolutionary theory, feedback models and practical aspects of the profession.
