What this video is about
This introductory video from Elemental Training raises a common paradox in the profession: almost all psychotherapists believe their effectiveness is above average, which is statistically impossible. It thus points out that psychologists are not free from cognitive biases either when it comes to assessing their own work.
From there, it introduces the concept of supershrinks or super-therapists: professionals who achieve results far above average regardless of the therapeutic model they use, and who have reached the level of clinical excellence that any therapist aspires to over the course of their career. The video reflects the idea that, in psychotherapy, what matters most is not so much the type of treatment offered as who delivers it.
The final point is that, if the characteristics of these most effective clinicians are better understood and can be identified and operationalised, it will be possible to learn them and even teach them to other therapists. This is the line of work behind the training programme being presented.
