What this video is about
This short video reflects on the selfie from a psychological point of view. The starting idea is that, as a cultural phenomenon, the selfie holds little mystery and is not really all that new: people have always taken care of their image and wanted to show the world a good version of themselves. As it suggests, the only thing that has changed is the tools we use to do it.
The video therefore proposes shifting attention from the photo itself to the psychological place it occupies in each person’s life. It draws a clear distinction: sharing an image because you want to keep or express a moment is not the same as doing so because you need to constantly feel other people’s approval or recognition. The reflection invites us to ask what function that image serves, rather than focusing on the act of taking or sharing it.
